Mardi Gras Dance - March 4, 2022

New Orleans Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras in the United States first took place on March 3, 1699. French explorers Pierre Le Moyne d’Iberville and Sieur de Bienville landed close to New Orleans, Louisiana. They held a small celebration and dubbed their landing spot Point du Mardi Gras.

After several years, New Orleans and other French settlements began celebrating this holiday with street parties, masked balls and rich dinners. After the Spanish took control of New Orleans, however, they changed the parties most extreme activities, and the more mellow mardi gras in Louisiana held for many years.
